Serving Social Mission Organizations

We choose to serve organizations that, like us, are committed to making the world a better place.  We were founded to serve primarily non-profit organizations, groups that work to provide food, education and housing to those in need; enrich our lives through the arts; protect our environment; and provide a mode of civic engagement. Our clients contribute to communities in the DC metropolitan area, around the nation and throughout the world.  Many technology and consulting companies exist to support large businesses and corporations; we are here to serve those who serve others.

Community Involvement

Every year Community IT Innovators makes donations to organizations aligned with our values and awards pro-bono project work to organizations in need.  This year, we've offered pro bono consulting to PowerMundo and matched a contribution to develop a website for Street Sense (see sidebar). In 2008-2009 we worked with Atayne, a Virginia-based, small, sustainable business that sells environmentally-friendly athletic wear, on an online strategy project to build their business presence.

Last year, to celebrate our first 15 years of being in business, Community IT Innovators looked for additional ways to give back to the community that has fostered our growth as a company.  We chose a project that expressed our philosophy of partnering with clients to find "just right" solutions, and which showcased our consideration for the human as well as the technology needs of an organization.

We awarded a holistic technology assessment grant (valued at approximately $15,000) to the Small Enterprise Education and Promotion (SEEP) Network, a global organization that provides best practices information to their micro-finance and micro-enterprise members.  CITI consultants worked with SEEP to examine their information processes and technology needs. Other community involvement has included donations to Casey Trees, an organization working to increase the tree canopy in DC, and the Washington Area Bicycle Association.  Several of our staff, including CEO Dave Deal, participated in a 5k run last year to benefit the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary. This year we ran to support affordable housing and Manna.

Our office is decorated with artwork  from the ArtBank of the New Community ArtSpace, a Shaw neighborhood organization providing art education to youth and adults in the community.

Our Employees

We support our employees by offering flexible work schedules, essential benefits, and a supportive work environment that values people for their individual gifts and talents.  We survey staff regularly to improve the CITI environment - a great place to work and a place where employees have a work-life balance.  Many of our employees give back to the community outside of their working lives by volunteering for organizations they support, such as religious organizations, local soccer leagues, local environmental groups, and participating in fine arts.  We keep a lively social calendar keeping up with the activities of our colleagues!
